Orthodox vs. Catholicism: Visual Argument Chains

PURPOSE: Infographic source for NotebookLM visual generation

CONTRADICTION CHAIN 1: Papal Jurisdiction

VATICAN I (1870)
"The Pope has universal supreme jurisdiction over the ENTIRE Church,
and this has been the case FROM THE VERY BEGINNING."
          |
          | CONTRADICTED BY
          v
CHIETI DOCUMENT (2016, Vatican-Approved)
"The bishop of Rome did NOT exercise canonical authority
over the churches of the east."
          |
          | WHICH MEANS
          v
THE FIRST 1,000 YEARS of Christianity did NOT operate
on a Vatican I model. Rome's OWN documents admit this.

CONTRADICTION CHAIN 2: Temporal Supremacy

DICTATUS PAPAE (1090, Pope Gregory VII)
27 propositions: Pope is world ruler, can depose emperors
          |
          | ESCALATES TO
          v
UNAM SANCTAM (1302, Pope Boniface VIII)
"You MUST believe in the Pope's TEMPORAL supremacy to be SAVED."
In Denzinger sections 468-469 (Vatican's dogma compendium)
          |
          | CONTRADICTED BY
          v
VATICAN II (1962-1965)
Freedom of conscience. Freedom of worship.
Dignity of the human person. Religious liberty.
Pope removes the triple tiara crown.
          |
          | YOU CANNOT DISMISS VATICAN II BECAUSE
          v
CANON 752 (Post-Vatican II Canon Law)
"Religious submission of intellect and will MUST be given
even if they did not proclaim it a definitive act."

CONTRADICTION CHAIN 3: Interfaith & Ecumenism

COUNCIL OF FLORENCE — CANTATE DOMINO (1442)
"Non-Christians — including Muslims and Jews — CANNOT be saved."
          |
          | REINFORCED BY
          v
MORTALIUM ANIMOS (1928, Pope Pius XI)
"The Apostolic See CANNOT take part on any terms in interfaith
assemblies. Supporting ecumenism gives rise to FALSE Christianity."
          |
          | REVERSED BY
          v
VATICAN II — LUMEN GENTIUM 16 (1964)
"Muslims have the faith of Abraham."
"Hindus can be saved by loving God."
          |
          | EXPANDED BY
          v
NOSTRA AETATE (1965)
Positive view of Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism.
Reversal of Catholic teaching on non-Christian religions.
          |
          | TAKEN FURTHER BY
          v
JOHN PAUL II — ASSISI GATHERINGS (1986+)
World prayer meetings with leaders of ALL religions.
          |
          v
FRANCIS — DOCUMENT ON HUMAN FRATERNITY (2019, Abu Dhabi)
Multi-faith center. Interreligious dialogue as central mission.

CONTRADICTION CHAIN 4: Papal Infallibility vs. History

VATICAN I CLAIM (1870)
"The Pope, speaking ex cathedra, is infallible.
This has been the case from the beginning."
          |
          | BUT IN HISTORY
          v
LATERAN COUNCIL 649
Pope Martin I called it. Intended it as ecumenical.
Condemned Monothelitism with full papal authority.
RESULT: NOT accepted as ecumenical. Did NOT settle the dispute.
          |
          | THE DISPUTE WAS ACTUALLY SETTLED BY
          v
CONSTANTINOPLE III (681)
An ECUMENICAL COUNCIL — not a papal decree — resolved it.
This council also CONDEMNED POPE HONORIUS I AS A HERETIC.
          |
          | WHICH PROVES
          v
Vatican I's model was NOT operative in the first millennium.
A pope was judged by a council — the opposite of infallibility.

CONTRADICTION CHAIN 5: The Filioque & Papal Authority

NICENE-CONSTANTINOPOLITAN CREED (381)
"The Holy Spirit who PROCEEDS FROM THE FATHER"
(John 15:26 — "the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father")
          |
          | UNILATERALLY CHANGED BY ROME
          v
FILIOQUE ADDITION ("and the Son")
Added locally in Spain (589). Spread through West.
Formally adopted by Rome in 1014.
NO ecumenical council authorized this change.
          |
          | POPE LEO III (810) ACTUALLY OPPOSED IT
          v
Leo III inscribed the Creed on silver shields
WITHOUT the Filioque. But Rome later added it anyway.
          |
          | THE THEOLOGICAL CONSEQUENCE
          v
Diminishing the Holy Spirit's role in the Church
created a vacuum that PAPAL AUTHORITY filled.
The Spirit guides the Church → replaced by → The Pope guides the Church.

THE EPISTEMIC TRAP (Visual Summary)

CATHOLIC CLAIM: "The papacy gives epistemic certitude —
you can KNOW with certainty what to believe."

    BUT...

- There is NO infallible list of infallible dogmas.

- Ludwig Ott's "255 Dogmas" = a FALLIBLE theologian's
FALLIBLE analysis. Not a magisterial document.

- Denzinger = 700+ pages. NOT an infallible pronouncement.
   Way more than 255 paragraphs.

- Saying "I submit to Rome" does NOT tell you if you are
   CORRECTLY INTERPRETING each dogma.

- A Christian in Ephesus in 310 AD knew the faith through
catechesis — WITHOUT a pope, Denzinger, or ecumenical council.

    THEREFORE...

The papal system does NOT deliver the certitude it promises.

THEOLOGICAL CORE: WHY INFALLIBILITY IS THE "HERESY OF HERESIES"

St. Justin Popovich's Argument (Visual Chain)

THE ORTHODOX UNDERSTANDING:
Christ (the God-Man / Theanthropos) is the HEAD of the Church.
The Church is His BODY. Together = the Theanthropic Body.
INFALLIBILITY belongs to this whole Body guided by the Holy Spirit.
          |
          | PAPAL INFALLIBILITY REPLACES THIS WITH
          v
ONE MAN takes the place of the God-Man.
He becomes "a church within the church."
He has that which belongs ONLY to Christ.
          |
          | THIS IS
          v
A DE-INCARNATION OF CHRIST
"The most dreadful banishment of the Lord Christ from the Earth."
          |
          | KHOMYAKOV'S INSIGHT
          v
"PAPISM WAS THE FIRST PROTESTANTISM"
Pope separates himself from the Body → individual authority.
Luther separates himself from the Church → individual authority.
BOTH = HUMANISM (replacing the God-Man with man alone).
