Philippians 2:16-23  ·  Luke 8:1-3
Philippians, chapter two, verses sixteen through twenty-three.
16holding fast the word of life, so that I may rejoice in the day of Christ that I have not run in vain or labored in vain. 17Yes, and if I am being poured out as a drink offering on the sacrifice and service of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with you all. 18For the same reason you also be glad and rejoice with me. 19But I trust in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you shortly, that I also may be encouraged when I know your state. 20For I have no one like-minded, who will sincerely care for your state. 21For all seek their own, not the things which are of Christ Jesus. 22But you know his proven character, that as a son with his father he served with me in the gospel. 23Therefore I hope to send him at once, as soon as I see how it goes with me.
Luke, chapter eight, verses one through three.
1Now it came to pass, afterward, that He went through every city and village, preaching and bringing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God. And the twelve were with Him, 2and certain women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities—Mary called Magdalene, out of whom had come seven demons, 3and Joanna the wife of Chuza, Herod's steward, and Susanna, and many others who provided for Him from their substance.

What is the Church teaching your soul today?

Today the Church calls you to let your life become an offering. You do not have to leave your daily life to worship God. Your daily life is the place where the offering is made. Paul poured himself out like wine and called it joy. Timothy cared for people far away, sincerely, without seeking his own. The women whom Christ healed walked the roads with Him and paid for the bread from their own purses. No one sang hymns about them then. But they were at the Cross when others ran, and they were the first to hear that He was risen. Hidden service is never wasted. Christ notices it and He remembers it. So whatever He has healed in you, give something back from it today. Give your time, your goods, your attention, and your care for someone else's needs. Do not ask whether anyone sees. "Thine own of Thine own" is not only the priest's prayer at the altar. It can be the shape of your whole day.

Ascetic posture for today: Do one hidden act of service today, with your time or your money, and tell no one about it.
