Philippians 2:24-30 · Luke 8:22-25
Philippians, chapter two, verses twenty-four through thirty.
24But I trust in the Lord that I myself shall also come shortly. 25Yet I considered it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, fellow worker, and fellow soldier, but your messenger and the one who ministered to my need; 26since he was longing for you all, and was distressed because you had heard that he was sick. 27For indeed he was sick almost unto death; but God had mercy on him, and not only on him but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow. 28Therefore I sent him the more eagerly, that when you see him again you may rejoice, and I may be less sorrowful. 29Receive him therefore in the Lord with all gladness, and hold such men in esteem; 30because for the work of Christ he came close to death, not regarding his life, to supply what was lacking in your service toward me. Luke, chapter eight, verses twenty-two through twenty-five.
22Now it happened, on a certain day, that He got into a boat with His disciples. And He said to them, Let us cross over to the other side of the lake. And they launched out. 23But as they sailed He fell asleep. And a windstorm came down on the lake, and they were filling with water, and were in jeopardy. 24And they came to Him and awoke Him, saying, Master, Master, we are perishing! Then He arose and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water. And they ceased, and there was a calm. 25But He said to them, Where is your faith? And they were afraid, and marveled, saying to one another, Who can this be? For He commands even the winds and water, and they obey Him!

What is the Church teaching your soul today?
Today the Church calls you to stop measuring your faith by how calm the water is. Christ Himself put His disciples in that boat. He knew the storm was coming, and He slept through it on purpose. Your storms do not mean He has left you. They are where He teaches you who He is. The disciples cried, "We are perishing," and they were wrong. Not one of them drowned. Epaphroditus came close to death, and God had mercy on him. Later he gave his life for Christ freely, because he had learned that his life was safe in Christ's hands. That is where the Church wants to bring you. You do not have to live clutching your life, afraid of every wave. You can give it away for the work of Christ, because the One in the boat commands the winds. When the wind rises today, do not panic, and do not pretend you are not afraid. Wake Him with prayer. Then hear Him ask you, gently, "Where is your faith?" and give Him your answer with your life.
Ascetic posture for today: When fear rises today, pray "Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me" before you say or do anything else.
